Anagni, the City of Popes, was the birthplace of four Popes during the Middle Ages; including Bonifacio VIII, the pope who imprisoned Pope Celestino V in the Castle of Fumone after his abdication. After the long downhill to Paliano, you might have a lunch of delicious gnocchi with Porcini mushrooms. For dessert, we’ll stop in Anagni to relish the Panpapato, a chocolate cake with almonds, hazelnuts, walnuts.
