Excursions in the Lazio Region
More than half of the municipality of Fiuggi is made up of forests. Large expanses of chestnut and oak, with lindens, maples, firs, pines and even sequoias that change color with the seasons and invent new landscapes. A few kilometers from the city is the delightful Lake Canterno and the green meadows of the Arcinazzo Highlands. And even mountain lovers can enjoy the beautiful views of Campo Catino and Campo Staffi, which are not far away.
Ciociaria has been able to not only enjoy, but also to defend and preserve its immense natural wealth. The Selva di Paliano, unique in Italy, is one example. It is a nature reserve that extends into the large estate of Prince Ruffo of Calabria, on 45 hectares of hilly terrain, full of small lakes fed by a single Roman source.

Environmental conditions in the park are suited to the more than 200 species of birds from all over the world, which live here in freedom.
Swans, ostriches, cranes, flamingos, pelicans and other rare birds share the park with several migratory species, which for years choose this oasis as a stopping point, offering visitors and birdwatchers a truly fascinating show.
The Selva di Paliano is not the only natural attraction in the area.
Other highlights include the Antullo Mine, near Collepardo, the waterfall of Isola Liri and the canyon carved by the river near the Certosa di Trisulti.
Surrounded by chestnut and oak trees, and by the mountain ranges of Ernici and Lepini, Fiuggi offers the opportunity to take beautiful and interesting excursions. For instance, Lake Canterno, at the gates of the city, lies along the road that starts at the Bonifacio and goes by the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Star. Once you complete the tour around the lake, you can take a break at one of the many restaurants along the shore and enjoy the SPA of the hotel, a real wellness weekend!
The last wonder, not to be missed, is the mysterious underground world of the Pastena Caves: more than 3000 meters of stalactites and stalagmites that form one of the most interesting speleological heritages in Italy.
